Champion Los Angeles Dodgers to visit Trump, White House next month

The reigning world champion Los Angeles Dodgers will visit President Trump’s White House in two weeks, joining a slew of title teams accepting invitations.

The Dodgers will visit the White House on April 7 ahead of a three-game series against the hometown Nationals. Los Angeles won last year’s World Series in five games against the New York Yankees.

“The Dodgers look forward to visiting the White House and celebrating our title,” the team wrote on X, noting that players would also visit Capitol Hill on April 8.

Manager Dave Roberts will be there, despite comments he made in 2019 to the contrary. After falling just short of a championship in 2018, the longtime manager told the Los Angeles Times that he likely would’ve skipped a visit to the White House.

“I’m going,” Roberts told reporters on Tuesday. “I respect the position. It’s the highest office in our country, certainly in the world, so looking forward to it.”

It’s not clear how many players will join him. Outfielder Kike Hernandez told the Times he’d be there, but superstar Mookie Betts wouldn’t commit. He noted that he’d discuss the opportunity with his family.

During Trump’s first term, several championship teams, including the NBA’s Golden State Warriors, weren’t invited to the White House or skipped the traditional trip due to disagreements with the commander in chief.

The momentum has shifted in 2025. The NHL’s Florida Panthers became the first team to visit during Trump’s second term. The college football champion Ohio State Buckeyes will visit April 14, followed by the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles on April 28.
