Miracles: Investigating the supernatural – Washington Times

Thank you for being a valued subscriber to The Washington Times. Please enjoy this exclusive conversation on investigating miracles. Billy Hallowell, host of the CBN documentary “Investigating the Supernatural: Miracles,” sits down with director Jarrod Anderson to talk about how their project came together. The documentary shares personal stories, corroborating interviews, medical documentation and more, allowing viewers to make their own decisions about what to believe. This project is meant for skeptics and believers alike, and for anyone who has said, “Show me the evidence.”

[HALLOWELL] Well, Jared, you and I have been working together for quite a bit now, actually almost two years since we started talking about this project, investigating the supernatural miracles, which is a new documentary from CBN, Christian Broadcasting Network, and you are the director of this.

And I have to say, first of all, you’re an incredible director, you’re Emmy nominated, you’re one of the hardest workers I’ve ever worked with and a really smart screenwriter, scriptwriter, director, and you know, I’m building this up because it’s true and also because just working with you has been amazing, it’s been a pleasure.

And this project diving into miracles, investigating the veracity of these stories, it’s been pretty amazing and I want to start, because we go back a couple of years, to the beginning. But I want to go back even further because we’re dealing with a subject matter, miracles that a lot of Americans care about.

A lot of people believe that miracles are true. In fact, the majority of the public, whether they’re Christians or no matter what faith they are or even no faith, do believe in miracles in your own life.

When you think back to a time when you didn’t believe in miracles, take us back to that. Like what was it for you that maybe prevented you from seeing the miraculous?

[ANDERSON] Yeah, you know, that’s an interesting question. I think for me, you know, I went to public school, I learned about evolution in school. And I think I kind of had the mindset that God was disproven, that supernatural phenomena were just, you know, believed by people who were superstitious and that all of that, that science disproved all of these things.

So I think for me, I was always a skeptic growing up very much into philosophy and science, and just I really discounted a lot of these things until much later.

[HALLOWELL] So it’s interesting because here we are, you know, we’ve got a movie that we’re talking about investigating the supernatural miracles. It’s out right now.

And for people who are interested, they can go to CBN.com/supernatural to check that out and to watch the film. So you could have never really imagined that you would be the director and the main brains behind a movie, like investigating the supernatural then. If you were to go back to that time, I imagine.

[ANDERSON] No, I wouldn’t have anticipated this. I would not have planned this. It is kind of funny. I was even talking with somebody, you know this was 15-20 years ago when my eyes were really kind of opened to the fact that miracles and miraculous claims, these things are happening and people are claiming these things happen.

And you know, I was actually talking with somebody who was actually at this particular event that I was that where my eyes were kind of opened and we were kind of reminiscing of like, this is crazy, what a journey this has been.

[HALLOWELL] I want to talk about that too, because you and I have had conversations about this and we’ll get into the film a little bit more. But to go from some and there are a lot of people who are watching are listening to this, who I know are probably in a similar place in their lives where maybe they’re not sure they believe to where you were back then.

This particular event, what was the event and what was it that you saw there that made you make that shift?

[ANDERSON] It was actually a church conference that I’d went to. And there was an evangelist there and he basically was talking, you know, he was preaching, but he also started talking about healing and he shared a lot of crazy stories. I mean, bizarre stories.

And I’m sitting there like, what is this guy talking about? You know, they were weird. I wasn’t fully buying it, and then he kind of started to talk more and more about, well, I’m going to pray for people right now. And I’m like, okay, this is different. And, you know, he prayed for a little girl. And she had knees, her knees were bent inwards. She was bow legged, she couldn’t run. That’s what she claimed.

And he prays for her. She starts running around this conference. And you know, for me, I’m like, okay, this is a little kid. And, you know, kids, I have three little kids, they speak the truth, whether you like it or not, you know, and they’ll be honest about things.

And so I think for me, it was just kind of like, it wasn’t the thing that fully kind of turned me over. But this girl just starts running around this conference room and I’m like, I didn’t have a grid for that.

And I was like, I need to look into this more.
