How Women’s League Builds Leaders
Parashat Vayikra begins, “The Lord called to Moses,” inviting him into the Tabernacle. Once Moses joined God inside, God instructs him to explain to the Israelites what sacrifices they may make and how the sacrifices should be made. God does not just tell Moses how to perform the sacrifices, God instructs him to teach the Israelites. In the instructions God lays out, not what Aaron will do as part of the sacrifice, but what Aaron’s sons will do and what the person offering the sacrifice will do. God breaks down the sacrifice into manageable pieces with each responsible party knowing their role.
In this parashah, God is not just teaching us the sacrifices; God is also teaching us succession planning. First, you must welcome people into the tent. Then, you and they must understand the work they are capable of doing, and, finally, give them the tasks and slowly increase their responsibility.
A good way to do this is the EDGE Method. Once you know what someone is capable of doing, and they agree to doing the task you Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, and Enable. The last step is as important as the first. Once you teach someone how to do the task, you must step back and let them do it. Let them build their confidence so that they can lead.
WLCJ has the mechanisms to help you do this. Our Consultants offer a variety of trainings and experiences both locally at the Affiliate and Region levels and more broadly with Leadership Institute. This year WLCJ is offering scholarships for women to attend Leadership Institute. If you would like a Consultant to come to your Affiliate, or have a member you would like to send to Leadership Institute, reach out to your Region leadership.
