Dress purportedly worn by Melania Trump at her 2005 wedding up for sale on eBay

A user on eBay is trying to sell a dress she claims was worn by first lady Melania Trump at her 2005 wedding to President Trump.

On Wednesday afternoon, the price was $45,000 or best offer, although the woman listing it claims to have bought the dress from Mrs. Trump for $70,000 in 2010.

However, Mrs. Trump’s stylist says the dress up for sale is not the genuine article.

The woman, whose real name is not listed on her profile, has been trying to sell it on the online auction site since Jan. 21.

She also explains in the item’s listing that it has been worn one other time since 2005 — for her own 2011 wedding.

The seller wrote that she had the dress altered, since Ms. Trump is a size 0-2 and she is a size 4-6, but that the dress could be reverted to its original size by removing a back layer that was added to the piece.

Other additions to the dress include newer embroidered pieces at the top of the dress as well as a new layer of satin on the bottom of the dress.

Some, however, contend the listing is false, including Mrs. Trump’s longtime stylist Herve Pierre. He told the New York Times that he stored her wedding dress in Palm Beach two years ago.

Mr. Pierre also explained that the dress he stored had a label and a ribbon on the side for reference; no such label is visible in the pictures of the dress uploaded to eBay.

The seller said in eBay messages with another party that the customary label Dior puts on such pieces was removed when she had the dress altered, according to the New York Times.

The dress is not included in the categories of items that eBay authenticates itself, eBay Chief Communications Officer Gigi Ganatra told Women’s Wear Daily.
